Northalsted

Why we love it?

Northalsted, sometimes referred to as Boystown, is the oldest officially recognized gay neighborhood in the United States and one of the most inclusive LGBTQ+ communities in the whole of the country. It is renowned for its friendly atmosphere, nonstop nightlife, companies owned by LGBTQ people, and good culinary options. Some of Chicago's most well-known events and festivals are also held there.

Insider tips

Explore the world's only outdoor LGBTQ history museum, the acclaimed Legacy Walk. The Legacy Walk, which is on Halsted Street between Belmont Avenue and Grace Street, honors LGBTQ+ historical figures and heroines with vibrant monuments.

Visit colorful boutiques, hip vintage apparel shops, and buzzing cafés along the way to experience the neighborhood's laid-back, unique vibe. The celebration never ends as night falls. Look into the neighborhood nightlife, where you can discover karaoke events, drag shows, dance clubs, dive pubs, and more.

The annual Pride Month celebrations in the city are centered in this neighborhood. Pride Fest kicks off the celebration with two days of music, cuisine, dancing, drag queens, and other entertainment. The legendary Chicago Pride Parade, a dazzling procession that attracts an estimated one million people annually, serves as the festival's grand finale. The largest street celebration in the Midwest, Northalsted Market Days, takes place in August, but the pride doesn't end there.
